Rainbows End Farm is the heart of a group of farm buildings in the hamlet of Authèze hidden away on a south facing hill in the wild country of the Haute Minervois. The surrounding hills are full of wild life: badgers, falcons, deer, wild boar...This is walking, mountain biking, riding, quad country and the well marked trails criss-cross the landscape in all directions. Of course you may just want to sit by the source of the river Vallette which runs off our land. Take a book and relax to the sound of the spring water cascading over the rocks.
The surrounding countryside is quite extraordinary. Situated at the very beginning of the hill country the scenery is a mixture of Mediterranean garrigue, pine forests, green meadows, waterfalls, ferns, oak trees, hazel and walnuts, chestnuts and beeches.There is a 12th century chapel which has been totally restored by volunteers working with 2 master craftsmen and it is a true haven of peace.
The nearest market town is St. Pons de Thomieres although the local village of Ferrals les Montagnes, 4 kms, has a Sunday farmers market in the summer. St.Pons (half an hours drive) has 2 supermarkets, bank and weekly market with local fruit, veg, cheeses, meat, honey...Going down to the plain Olonzac is half an hour away and has banks, supermarkets, restaurants and a lively weekly market. There is also a leisure lake with beach and BBQ facilities. We are close to the Cathar city of Minerve with its summer light shows and artists galleries.
